How long will it take to sell my loved one’s house after she dies?

These videos come from real life questions. If the Decedent passed away with a last will and testament, it will be presented to the probate court with a petition to appoint a personal representative. If there is not will, the court will appoint a personal representative, if the statutory heirs, do not consent.

Once the probate court approves the petition, the court will issues letters of administration (letters testamentary) which gives the personal representative the legal authority to act on behalf of the estate. The personal representative can then enter a contract for the sale of the house.

If the house sells quickly, the estate can usually be closed within 9 months.
